  1. Good looking unit. I live in southeastern Wisconsin but have been out to South Dakota twice in the last few years and have photographed some D&I trains. A friendly crew member even took a picture of my son and I in front of his train. I would like to paint a pair of D&I engines but can not find anyone who makes decals. Do you know where I could buy some or did you have them custom made or make them yourself ?

    • Hi Tim, Yeah, the D&I is a classy outfit. Their operations manager is a good friend of mine. I made the D&I heralds myself using white backed Vita-Cal decal film. I’m no longer producing them because the printer that did them died and my new one doesn’t work for this purpose. The stripes, flags and lettering/numbers are scraps from other Microscale sets. I’m not going to be able to use all the heralds that I have left over. So if you want, send me your mailing address and I’ll send you enough to do a few engines. I had an article on doing these a few months ago in the NMRA THousand Lakes Region newspaper. I’ll see if I can get you a copy. My email is dakotabranch …at… Yahoo [.com].

  2. […] how I did the decals for the D&I engines that grace the header of this blog and the one in this post.   These are Vita-Cal decals with white backing, custom printed by me a while back on a printer […]
